In Brief

SSV Network, in partnership with Sigma Prime, has launched Anchor—a Rust-based SSV client inspired by Ethereum’s multi-client model—to boost resilience, security, and decentralization.

SSV Network Steps Closer to Ethereum Level Resilience with Anchor

Ethereum’s ascent to dominance wasn’t due to a single codebase, but rather the power of diverse clients and the resilience from independent development. SSV Network is now applying this philosophy with the launch of Anchor, a Rust-based Distributed Validator Technology client created in partnership with Sigma Prime, a renowned Ethereum development team

Anchor is an independent implementation of the SSV protocol, built on the foundations of Lighthouse, Sigma Prime’s trusted Ethereum consensus client. Introducing this alternative to SSV Labs’ existing Golang client enhances the network’s protection against outages, exploits, and centralization risks. It reflects Ethereum’s transition from a single-client setup to a diverse ecosystem, ensuring that no single bug or vulnerability can compromise the entire network.

Distributed Validator Technology at the Core

The importance of Anchor is deeply connected to the promise of Distributed Validator Technology (DVT). In this model, validator duties are divided among several operators, none of whom have complete access to the private key. Instead, each participant manages only a key share, working together through threshold signature schemes to complete signing. This approach removes single points of failure and maintains Ethereum staking’s non-custodial nature, boosting both security and dependability.

The current release, Anchor 0.1.0, is exclusively designed for testnet use. It already works with the existing Golang implementation, showing the advantages of independently developed clients operating together. Mainnet access remains disabled during ongoing development and security assessments, and interfaces like the CLI, HTTP API, and metrics endpoints may change as the project advances.

For SSV, Anchor symbolizes a commitment to Ethereum’s core principles: diversity, resilience, and decentralization. Backed by Sigma Prime’s proven expertise and SSV’s leadership in DVT, this testnet release indicates that the network is not only preparing for current validators but also establishing a stronger, censorship-resistant consensus layer for Ethereum’s future.
